Extended Producer Responsibility and the introduction of the Plastic Packaging Tax – Are you ready?
Extended Producer Responsibility and the introduction of the Plastic Packaging Tax – Are you ready?
The introduction of the UK plastic tax is confirmed to take place from April 2022, whilst the 10-week consultation on Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging, due to launch in 2023, has just begun; both regulatory changes are expected to greatly impact obligated packaging producers.
The aim of the plastic tax is to encourage recycled content to be used in plastic packaging placed on the UK market and will affect importers and manufacturers of plastic packaging. From the 1 April 2022, plastic packaging components manufactured in and imported into the UK will be liable for a specific material tax where it does not meet a minimum recycled content of 30% by weight.
Comply Direct can support you in calculating potential plastic tax liability and reducing future plastic tax costs, ensuring you know what you need to do as a liable business.

Compliance costs under the new EPR packaging regulations could increase significantly and the modulation of fees will make the environmental performance of packaging impact its compliance cost. Packaging that is not considered 'widely recyclable' is more likely to have increased costs.
Comply Direct can support businesses and help you understand the impact of EPR on your business to ensure you are ready for EPR and modulated fees.
